Jeremy bought Guitar Hero III for his PS3. ZOMG I am never going to get work done at all anymore. That shit is way too much fun. :p

I'm not a songwriter, but that new Theory of a Deadman song would sound so much better if they were saying "badass girlfriend" instead of "bad bad girlfriend." I thought that maybe the radio was censoring it and changing the words, but no...that's how the song really goes. Disappointing.

It's an interesting meme I found on Last.fm. You take the top 25 artists on your playlist and find something bad to say about them (but you know you love them anyway!).

1. Evanescence - Unfortunately their sound hasn't changed much at all. I like the whole spooky gothic orchestra/choir thing backing up the vocals and band, but it all starts to sound the same after awhile.

2. Snow Patrol - They're a good band, but holy hell some of their songs suck.

3. Breaking Benjamin - There are times when I really get sick of the hard rock, "nu metal" sound. They sound a lot like so many other rock bands.

4. Linkin Park - Some of their lyrics are really juvenile. They make you feel like you're back in high school (although I admit they first hit it big while I was in my angsty high school funk).

5. Aerosmith - I have to be in the right mood to like Aerosmith. Otherwise their music sounds really dated and bordering on annoying. "Dream On" is really the only exception to that.

6. Coldplay - Ok, I absolutely hated "Yellow" when they first made it big with that song. In fact I think I still hate it.

7. Dashboard Confessional - I have no idea why this is so high on the list. I don't even like them much anymore.

8. Tegan and Sara - Why are they doing those stupid commercials on MTV?

9. Nobuo Uematsu - For some reason I can't stand any of the tracks he's composed that have spoken lyrics. "Eyes on Me" is particularly annoying.

10. Damien Rice - His stuff all sounds the same, and it's so boring and depressing sometimes. Like Aerosmith, I have to be in the right mood to really like it.

11. My Chemical Romance - Yeah, they're starting to get on my nerves. I loved them when "Helena" first came out, but now they irk me.

12. Coheed and Cambria - It all sounds the same. They're probably one of the worst offenders in that respect.

13. The Killers - My sister hates them because they sound like a bad 80's new wave band. She has a point.

14. Vertical Horizon - "Everything You Want" was their best album. It's been downhill since.

15. Imogen Heap - I've never been all that impressed with her solo stuff. In fact my favorite song of hers is a Frou Frou song.

16. Third Eye Blind - The "Third Eye Blind" album is awesome from start to finish, but nothing they did after that was any good at all. It's disappointing. :(

17. Muse - I really hate about half their stuff. It's like they walk a fine line between awesome and WAY overdone synthy-techno-crap.

18. Pearl Jam - Meh. The songs I have of theirs on my playlist are really not remarkable in any way. I like "Black," but the rest of them are kinda boring.

19. Rilo Kiley - This was totally a phase. I deleted most of their stuff off my playlist a few months ago because I just couldn't stand her voice anymore.

20. Jem - I like her voice but I'm not crazy about the lyrics.

21. Natalie Imbruglia - One of her songs ("Troubled By the Way We Came Together") is really starting to annoy me. I skip it every time it comes up.

22. Sarah McLachlan - I really wonder why some of these are so high on my playlist. I only have like two of her songs.

23. Straylight Run - This was kind of a phase too. I don't listen to their stuff much anymore.

24. Trapt - WTF? This goes along with why I don't like Breaking Benjamin, but it really is a mystery to me that they're so high on the list.

25. Collective Soul - It's odd that I listen to Collective Soul so much and yet I have no U2 songs at all. They're kinda similar...

I've noticed that the top artists on my playlist are not necessarily the artists I'm really into right now. I guess it takes a really long time for them to filter down the list. I'm also sad that some bands I really love at the moment aren't even in my top 50. :(

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: For those who are guessing -- looking the lyrics up on a search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own.

VH1 is counting down the top 100 songs of the 90's, and it's pretty much awesome. I need to pack for our trip to Minnesota tomorrow, but I don't want to stop watching it.

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. What a shitty way to end 2006. I'm sick. This might be one of the first New Year's Eves that Jeremy and I can actually celebrate together, and I feel like death. Everyone around me has been sick lately, so I guess it had to happen eventually.

I keep hearing noises outside, and I can't figure out whether it's fireworks, dumbasses shooting off guns, or something else entirely. Oh, and Jeremy's playing mp3 clips of tornado sirens on his computer. Just 'cause. Now it's tv theme songs (specifically Night Court I think). We are a random pair.

As for the oh so popular 2006 in review, I graduated from college, I went storm chasing for 7,000 miles straight without seeing any tornadoes, I moved to Oklahoma and moved in with my boyfriend, and my first semester of grad school kicked my ass. That pretty much brings us to today.

Happiness is driving down the road without finding a decent song ANYWHERE on the radio and then discovering that Jagged Little Pill is in your CD player. That was the first CD I ever bought and I still don't get sick of it.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVANESCENCE IS COMING TO CEDAR FALLS!!!!! I've been waiting and waiting and waiting. You have no idea how pissed I was to find out that they performed at the Kansas State Fair less than two weeks after I came up here for school. But that doesn't matter now!

YAY!

Alrighty folks, for your viewing pleasure and amusement, I give you Tyson Ritter of the All American Rejects as I knew him. (This was pretty damn funny if I do say so myself. I couldn't find the other three guys, so they must have moved to Stillwater after I left.)

Here's the pics )
miraje: (Default)
Ok, this question is mostly for an_otter, but anyone else who knows about these guys can chime in. What's your opinion on the bands Appleseed Cast and Ultimate Fakebook? They're both from Lawrence, so I figured you would have heard of them. They're both coming to Ames, and I was wondering if either were worth seeing. Let me know!
miraje: (Default)
HOLY SHIT! I went to school with these guys!

God, I thought the lead singer looked familiar. My best friend had a crush on him back in the day...she had good taste.

They're in for it when I bust out the yearbook.

Hmm, looks like I'm going to spend Saturday night playing Dragon Warrior and screwing around on the net. I'm not as upset about it tonight as I was last night for the simple fact that I finally got ahold of some of my friends. Apparently there's really nothing going on anywhere...that I can get into. Barhopping's not a choice for my 19 year-old ass. Can't say that I'd really enjoy it if I could go. 40-60 horny, sweaty, drunk college students all hanging on each other and trying to get laid don't exactly spell out my crowd.

Sidenote: Kill Hannah's starting to get airplay on the radio station here, and I saw them live six months ago at VEISHEA before anyone knew who they were (outside of Chicago that is). Yay! That's never happened to me before. Kinda nifty.

Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on? Could it be a faded rose from days gone byyyyyyyy? And did I hear you say you was a-meetin' him here today to take you to his castle in the skyyyyy...

Been repeating itself in my head all damn morning, and has now forced me to sing it over and over again all morning. I haven't actually heard this song in years, so why is it stuck in my head?

As part of my farming gig out in western Kansas, I'll be on a combine cutting wheat for 14-15 hours a day for three weeks straight. As you can imagine, those hours can be very long when you're alone and all you can pick up on the radio is country and soft rock. So, I'll be making a few mix tapes to take with me, crossing my fingers that there will be a working tape player in it. I need a little bit of help picking music. Here's a list of my cds:

There's about 40 of them )

I'm in a downloading frenzy right now since I'm losing my cable modem May 31. Quick, give me a BIG list of songs to download!

I heard a lot of things that were very unpleasant to hear tonight. First, I was watching the Country Music Awards on CBS. When the Dixie Chicks' name was called for entertainer of the year, the audience (all the country singers and families and suck) booed. I'm getting so fucking tired of the immaturity that our country has shown these artists. When once these people loved their music and brought them into their family, they have now shoved them out into the gutters. I couldn't help but think what a bunch of hypocrites all these adult artists were. You go to an awards show to honor the music, and all I saw was political propaganda with people singing about America kicking ass and getting standing ovations and POWs being invited to see the show. If you don't agree with them, then you better not say a goddamn thing. They'll rake you over the coals for have a fucking OPINION. Who gives a shit about music anymore. While all this was going on, I got to sit there and listen to Dad and Vickie talk about how glad they were that the Dixie Chicks were booed.

Here's the second unpleasant thing of the night. I was watching CNN or some other news station, and they were talking about the next election. It's starting to look like Bush might win re-election. The Democrats need to stop squabbling, pull their heads out of their asses, and get something moving. They need to pick a candidate...SOON.
miraje: (Default)
I finally understand some of the appeal to seeing bands that haven't become famous yet. The concerts are much smaller and more intimate, and there's the feeling that if they ever make it big, you saw them before they made it. It's kinda cool. There was a band out of Chicago that played her tonight, and I went with Susan and Sarah to see them perform. Their name was Kill Hannah, and they had a sound unlike anything I've heard before. Apparently, they have this HUGE fanbase in Chi-town, but nobody here has heard of them. They pack clubs up there, and here they were lucky to get maybe 25 or 30 people standing around the stage.

I loved it. Susan bought a t-shirt and their CDs. The band themselves were actually standing out there selling their own shit, which I thought was awesome. I should have got an autograph. Shit.
