I heard a lot of things that were very unpleasant to hear tonight. First, I was watching the Country Music Awards on CBS. When the Dixie Chicks' name was called for entertainer of the year, the audience (all the country singers and families and suck) booed. I'm getting so fucking tired of the immaturity that our country has shown these artists. When once these people loved their music and brought them into their family, they have now shoved them out into the gutters. I couldn't help but think what a bunch of hypocrites all these adult artists were. You go to an awards show to honor the music, and all I saw was political propaganda with people singing about America kicking ass and getting standing ovations and POWs being invited to see the show. If you don't agree with them, then you better not say a goddamn thing. They'll rake you over the coals for have a fucking OPINION. Who gives a shit about music anymore. While all this was going on, I got to sit there and listen to Dad and Vickie talk about how glad they were that the Dixie Chicks were booed.

Here's the second unpleasant thing of the night. I was watching CNN or some other news station, and they were talking about the next election. It's starting to look like Bush might win re-election. The Democrats need to stop squabbling, pull their heads out of their asses, and get something moving. They need to pick a candidate...SOON.

I support them 100%. It's great the way they keep standing up for what they believe in. It hasn't seemed to hurt record sales (despite what you hear on the news).

^I completely agree. I'm not a fan of theirs, but I totally respect them for standing up for what they believe in. Gotta love that.

Not to mention that June Carter Cash, a country LEGEND, died a week ago and no one at the ceremony seemed to care. The ACMs are such a waste of time.

They talked about her for about 21.2 seconds. I think they should have given some kind of achievement award or something. Also, if you watched, Reba WAS about to cry while she was talking about it.

I love the Dixie Chicks.. I love their music and I love what they said about Bush. It so great to see such strong women stand up for what they believe, and they're not even backing down.

"I got to sit there and listen to Dad and Vickie talk about how glad they were that the Dixie Chicks were booed."

I know what you mean about ^that. When my parents came to pick me up from school for my summer break, we were in the car, and I said "let's put in the Dixie Chicks!" And my dad said: I don't want to even put them near the radio" yadda yadda yadda.. And my mom said: "Their not so bad. It's only that one with the big mouth running at the head." Um.. HELLO??!! So *I* said: "No. I'm glad they said what they said. SOMEBODY needed to say it." Needless to say, my parents didn't like it, but we got to listen to the Dixie Chicks.

Lol! I probably should have said something instead of sitting there fuming out the ears. *shrug* Oh well, it's an opportunity wasted.

Don't mean to intrude

I don't mean to intrude, nor step on anyones toes...but the reason alot of America reacted the way they did towards the Dixie Chicks was because they said it in another country. We all know that there is no way in hell that they would have stated their opinion at a concert in Texas, New York or any other state...I really think thats what the issue is...

It is okay for everyone to have an opinion and express their right of free speach, but expect someone to disagree...

Okies, I'm sorry I intruded in yer LJ...

I don't mind at all that you stated your opinion. Unlike a lot of people in our country, I respect what other people think most of the time. I only say "most of the time" because I don't like using never or always if I can avoid it. As soon as I do, something comes up that seems to be the exception to the rule.

I still don't understand the extent of the negativity, even if I understand where you're coming from on the being in another country thing. Ordinary people say those types of things all the time, in our country and in others. I never got the whole "Well, you're famous, so you're not allowed to have an opinion. And while you're at it, you're only allowed to speak your mind in certain places."
