Is anyone else getting something strange on the LJ homepage?

EDIT: I guess it's fixed now, but damn that was weird. The only thing on the homepage was a 100x100 PNG image of a tower-looking thing.

Woot! [livejournal.com profile] weathernerds is in the spotlight this week. :D

If you've had LJ for over a year, look back to one year ago today and link back to and quote from your entries of that day.

If you have more than one year, go back for the same day for each past year and quote for them as well.

If you've had LJ for under a year, quote from the first month you had LJ and then halfway through the time you've had it.

Are we not allowed to change the colors/etc. on the new paid user layouts or am I totally missing it somewhere? I like it, but I always seem to have to tweak things to what I like (for example, I hate that the text is white on the layout I'm using now and really, really want to change it). Help?

It's time for a cool down/hydration break after working outside for the last two hours. The builder of this subdivision brought some topsoil fill dirt in a dumptruck but left it in a huge pile so that it's our job to spread it around. You see, instead of laying down sod for the lawn, he just left bare ground figuring that the grass would fill in on its own. Well that was a stupid idea. We have more weeds and stickers than grass, and a few good rainstorms have washed huge ruts downslope to the ditch. The natural soil here is mostly clay, and the recent drought has made it rock hard so the grass is not only drying out but is also having trouble getting established in the areas that are still bare. The purpose of the rich top soil is to fill in the ruts and hopefully give the grass a chance to quickly grow into it to prevent more erosion. Jeremy and I have spent several hours in the past two days getting the dirt where it needs to be. Now Jeremy's at work all day, so the job falls to me. Woo. Hoo.

On an unrelated note, today is my journal's fifth anniversary. Yay!

I found this gem while tagging back entries. I wrote some pretty hilarious shit back in 2003.

"If I were the God/dess of Cooking, these would be commandments:

1. Thou shalt ONLY use 2% milk in macaroni and cheese. If I catch thee using skim milk, I shall banish thee to the pit of despair where tofu and sardines are the only foods thee can eat.
2. Thou shalt never eat a cantaloupe, for it is poison.
3. Thou shalt remove batteries from all smoke detectors before commencing the ritual of cooking.
4. Thou shalt always have a dishwasher!
5. Thou shalt drain fat from all fried meat. If thee fails to abide by this rule, I shall banish thee to the pit of saturated fat where thee will drink nothing but bacon grease.
6. Thou shalt never EVER dip french fries in anything other than ketchup. This includes the following: BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, honey mustard, sweet and sour sauce, steak sauce, mayonnaise, and most importantly...CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKES.
7. Thou shalt never EVER add bacon to devilled eggs. The pigs will thank thee.
8. Thou shalt never EVER put oysters in Thanksgiving stuffing. If I catch thee eating it, I will strike thee down by making thee choke on a pearl.
9. Thou shalt always have celery, hardboiled eggs, and sweet relish in thy tuna salad. It's tuna SALAD, not tuna sauce.
10. Thou shalt always put steak sauce on thy mashed potatoes. Bonus points on getting into heaven if it's Heinz 57."

I bought 12 months of paid time for my account. This is the first time I've ever put any money into this thing, but I think it is worth it. Livejournal has been good to me in the last four years, and I can totally manage paying $1.67 a month when I know it will be put to good use. Getting 12 more userpics doesn't hurt, either. There's no better way to commemorate this than with a new userpic.

This makes two nights in a row of the next door neighbor blasting Green Day through my wall. You know it's loud when you can understand every word that Billy Joe says. *sigh*

God damn it, Heather. Get off the fucking computer and go DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE! You have a shower to take, a cat to feed, work to do, money to make, a senior thesis to construct, a Spanish test-out to study for, the GRE to study for, and bills that are due today! WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL SITTING HERE?!?!?!?! Most people started their day three or four hours ago and are being productive members of society. You're here writing a livejournal post to yourself, in your pajamas. You. Are. Pathetic.

I've entered like 20 or 30 schools for the Livejournal Schools Database. I got the ones down that I actually attended (that's more than most people in itself), and then I thought...why stop there? They want the list to be as complete as possible, so I started plugging in all the high schools I knew about. There were schools I visited for various competitions, sporting events, and music festivals over the years. It would be cool if they could just swipe the Facebook's lists, since they seem to include high schools that no one is even from yet.

I know I'm a huge nerd for doing that, but I had nothing better to do at the time other than to drink my coffee. :) Hey Pratt people on here, tell me what schools I missed...

I'm loving my new layout. It's not all that complicated or tricked out (ok...that sounds weird coming from a white girl in Iowa), but it's a refreshing change from the half-page, scrolling 'til the mouse quits working layout that I had before. Also...I know this is going to make me look like a complete dumbass, but this is the first time I've figured out that I can use the S2 system. Hey, I thought it was a gizmo that only paid users could use, so I never bothered to see what it was. :p

After another three hours of playing, I'm up to the Architect level in Eternal Darkness. I know it's ridiculously easy, but I love this game! It's more of an eye candy kind of game rather than something that's challenging to play. It's obvious that the designers spent a shit load of time on the visual and audio aspects of it. There's so much detail in everything, from the way torches emit a realistic glow against the stone walls to the mood-setting, random screams. I wish I had a bigger tv. :(

How hell am I getting spam in my Gmail account if the only place I've used it online is Livejournal for reply notifications? Those fuckers are resourceful, I'll give them that.

I made pumpkin pie!

New userpic! Wheee!

WE GOT A DIGITAL CAMERA YESTERDAY. It's a Canon Powershot A85 (4.0 megapixel), and I LOVE it. It's the first digital camera I've ever had, and I am SO excited about trying it out and seeing what kind of pictures I can take with it. It only has a 15 second exposure limit on it, so I'll have to use my film SLR for long exposure night shots and whatnot, but EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

How could I afford it all of a sudden you may ask? Well, it was $300 for the camera, for starters. The photography supply place here in town celebrated their 75th anniversary yesterday, and as part of that, the first 20 people in the door either received a gift certificate or a free digital camera depending on which envelope they picked. The gift certificates were for $25, $50, and $75. I was number 6 out of the 20 people, and I drew an envelope with a $50 one in it. The only catch was that I had to use it THAT DAY. Jeremy and I have been talking about getting a digital for a long time, so I ran over to his place that afternoon, woke him up (he has been working night shifts, so he was sleeping during the day), and dragged him with me to get a digital camera. We spent a good hour there figuring out which camera was the best choice. It came down to the Fuji Finepix S3100 and the Canon Powershot A85, but we ended up picking the Powershot because it had a lot more modes and features for the same price. Other than that, they were pretty comparable. Jeremy paid for half, and I paid for half of what was left after I cashed in the gift certificate, so I only ended up spending about $135. I talked to Dad awhile back about wanting a digital camera, and he agreed at the time that as a Christmas gift this year, he would just give me half of the cash required to get it and I would cover the other half myself. If he remembers talking to me about this, I will probably get part of my money back for buying the camera. I just jumped the gun a little and bought it before he gave me the money. :p

And no, I didn't take the new picture of myself with the digital. It looks the way it does because of Photoshop.

......................................

I have absolutely nothing of interest to write about at the moment, but I feel like my journal's about due for an actual update of substance. All of my posts of late have been pointless ramblings about mundane day to day crap that I'm sure no one is interested enough to read as evidenced by the nearly complete disappearance of comments. I'm not a comment whore, mind you, but it is a signal to me that I need to put more effort towards actually writing as opposed to..well....not writing. I'll give an example:

Writing: It felt like Christmas when I opened my door and saw the postman standing in the hall with that little, square box in his hand. It took me 10 minutes to get to the goodies inside. The sender taped it up so well that it could sink to the bottom of a lake and not absorb a drop of water. The effort was well rewarded, though, because inside the package was the cutest little camera I had ever seen.

Not Writing: My camera finally came in the mail today.

Granted, my entries don't have to reek so bad of high-school-english-essay-homework syndrome, but I could certainly make them a little more interesting. I'm merely putting forth an example.

My life is boring, so many of my entries tend to be lengthily (is lengthily a word?) worded renditions of some normally very simple events. Refer to my Plant killing post.

Today is my journal's three year birthday! Woohoo! It's hard to believe that I've had it this long. I'm not one of those people who switches names all the time, but I guess I've never had a reason to.

I just ate my Pop-Tarts, and I'm still hungry. I've only been at work for 20 minutes, so I'm going to have to go find something else to eat before long. Maybe I'll take a little trip down to the Union and get something at the coffee shop while I'm there. Mmmmmm.............coffee................
miraje: (help me)
I found myself some new icons. :)

Now, I do laundry.
miraje: (Default)
I did some more work on my layout to try to fix whatever problems it had. I'm done working on it. If it still has problems, fuck it. I'm probably the only person who will look at it on a regular basis anyway.

Heather's To Do List for Today
*Eat lunch with Mom
*Pick up some things at Hy-Vee (didn't end up going)
*Get laundry quarters (did laundry at Mom's for free)
*Do laundry
*Study for Anthro and Geology finals
*Pay rent
miraje: (Default)
*bangs head against wall*

Note to self: KEEP YOUR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE UPDATED AND RUNNING.

I finally got around to reinstalling my antivirus software today, and it has found 10 infected files since then. Two were under the name Win32:SecondThought, one was under the name W32:Revop, and I can't remember what the other seven were. Regardless, FUCKING SHIT. None of it has seriously affected my computer or its performance that I know of so far, but it still pisses me off. Why the fuck do people write those things anyway?

Anywho, while all this craziness was going on, I managed to redo my journal layout again. I'm much happier with this one, so I think it'll stick around for awhile.

GAAHHH! Now the goddamn text isn't moving over to the right like it was earlier! Why do I put myself through this shit?

UPDATE: Now it's moving the text over on my friends page, but not on my main page. My livejournal is on crack tonight.

Ok LJ style gurus, I need help. How do you make the background color of your posts transparent? I'm using a stylesheet system for my settings, so any div tags won't work. I need a line of code that will work in the css. Anyone?
