I finally found the frickin' textbook store's website. I found the books required for both the meteorology classes, but there wasn't one listed for PDE. Hopefully that means there isn't one.

I already have one of the textbooks from my undergraduate classes which I didn't even pay for because it belongs to Jeremy, so my textbook expenses for this upcoming semester will amount to ONE paperback book for $22 (including tax). How the hell did I do that?

I should make more entries public. I don't know what I'm trying to hide anymore.

PS...They don't use Holton's book for Dynamics here. I'm not sure whether to grumble at buying more books or cheer at never having to use it again.

Oh I know. I've been saving a BUNCH of money ever since I started selling back my books on half.com. I've even made a profit on a few books.

Yay on the textbooks! I've already been advised that the book lists won't be posted for quite a while, and then will take even longer to get to the campus bookstore, so I might as well scour the internet as soon as they come out. Yay.

And I do the public posting, but I find it's utterly ridiculous that there are tiny things that you think are total non-issues that other people will use to be awful to you. Hm.

That's why I clammed up and started going mostly friends-only in the first place. The drama that comes with people taking stuff the wrong way is just stupid. But really, what is the point in locking an entry about textbooks?

Textbook manufacturer (totally misspelled) drama.

WHAT IF THEY DENY YOU BOOKS FOREVS?

good luck on never having to use Holton again.

I've never purchased it in an effort to avoid using it at all. (*no offense Holton, I hope you're not rolling over in your grave, much love and all, we all love you here*) Sadly, I have been unable to get away! I keep borrowing it from my officemate!

Yeah, I have a sneaky suspicion I'll be going back to it to get a second explanation of everything so that I understand the material better. Deciphering his writing style is torture, though. He should have taken a few tips on writing from Dr. Hobbs. :)

Heehee... although Hobbs' teaching style was more like a recitation of his writings (verbatim), god rest his soul. :(

makes you wonder what they use for dynamics if they dont use Holton. i mean...everyone used holton. unless its some guy from OU that probably wrote a book and can only get students from the school to buy it.

There are two books. One called "Fluid Dynamics" by someone, and another that I can't remember the name of. Both sound equally not-fun, though. But anything's better than Holton, right?

either way, it's atmospheric dynamics...and since it's grad level, i don't think it could be much worse than that.

**bows down in respect to your courage with grad school**

if you're talking about the Kundu "Fluid Mechanics" it's even worse. I'm a fan of the Gill "Atmospheric-Ocean Dynamics," very good! The more realistic and synoptic-scale the applications the better. :)

Fantastic. :(

The other book we have to use is something called "Vector and Tensor Analysis" by Hay. It doesn't even sound meteorology-related. Sigh.
