Some horribly evil person in this department ate my fetuccini alfredo that was in the grad student lounge freezer. Apparently food has been disappearing from that fridge for weeks now. WHO EATS OTHER PEOPLE'S FOOD???? How incredibly rude.

Oddly, you are not the first person on my friends list to have had this problem. I put my ideas-- one of them not quite legal-- on how to combat a lunch thief in a comment to this post.

That's funny, because it was a Michelina's dinner.

This is only the first time it has happened to me, because typically I don't leave food in there for days at a time (I eat what I bring with me in the morning). Also, my food tends to stay pretty safe if it's hidden in a bag instead of being out in the open like this one was.

If it happens again, I'm resorting to your tactics.

Actually, I think she'd be the third person, though I will never be able to find the tale of someone stealing my half-eaten sub sandwich from the law school refrigerator circa January 2005.

I thought about leaving something revolting -- garbage, soiled toilet paper, kleenex -- in a sandwich, but ultimately just never used the refrigerator again.

They had to circulate memos at my last two jobs because people were stealing other people's food. They were even taking stuff that was half-eaten! Unbelievable.

That's so gross. I don't think I could handle eating anything that's not sealed unless it belongs to me. Yuck.

Yes, but not as gross as stealing already-opened drinks... which has happened before. I generally don't like to leave stuff in the shared fridge, though I did do it once when I was sick; I figured that if anyone did steal them (they didn't) at least they'd also be getting a dose of my flu.

Ew. Who does that???? I hate people sometimes.
