Rants. Nothing more.

I don't understand why so many people here shuffle and scrape their feet along ice instead of actually picking them up and walking like the rest of us. Is it supposed to keep them from slipping or falling? Is it a throwback to their collective childhood?

Also, the sacred Columbia jacket is beyond my understanding. If you walk by 50 people at any given time on this campus, 48 of them are wearing Columbia coats. While I admit that yes, they look nice and come in pretty colors, I wonder why someone would spend so much money to be a lemming. I don't have one and don't plan on ever getting one. Call it my meager attempt to rebel against the mainstream or something.

I was a 'shuffler' my first semester there, but that is because it was my first real winter ever and I couldn't walk on ice too well.

The Columbia jackets are really warm. Columbia is also a really good brand for winter gear. If its good enough to climb Everest in, it must be good for an Iowa winter too. If I didn't have an REI jacket, I would have gotten a Columbia instead.

I have to second the warmth of the Columbia jackets...I almost got one, but then found a similar coat at American Eagle for about $50 with tax that was originally about $160...

I shuffle so I don't fall. Especially on ice.

People around here on a 'The North Face' kick. I have one, too, don't get me wrong. lol! But it was a birthday present. Like I would actually find myself paying $165 for a fleece. No way! And I actually find myself not wearing it as much just 'cause everyone else has one too. Does that make sense?

I wanted a Columbia jeacket a few years ago, just because it was the only winter coat I could find that came in purple that wasn't all old-lady. I mean, they docome in nice colors, and they're great for like, actual out-doorsy winter stuff, cause they do keep you super warm. But walking across campus? Throw on your hoodie and some long underwear and get over yourself. It's not the tundra.

What are you complaining about Columbia coats for? Have you looked at the campus of Iowa State? Carhartt coats are the problem. At least Columbia coats, albeit overwhelmingly popular, are not on an aesthetic par with intestinal disorders. Carhartt coats are the primary reason why I will refuse to move within two states of Iowa for the rest of my life. Anyone who can consider that to be a fashion statement should be fashion censored for the rest of their pathetic existence.
