In an interesting turn of events, I will be celebrating Independence Day at the National Mall in Washington DC. I found out this morning that my last day in the field is Monday (the 4th), and I'll be done with that by 10am. In one of the more spontaneous decisions I've made in my life, I decided that I would be in DC with Jeremy by 7pm that evening so that we could see the fireworks together. It's amazing that we live in a time and place where it's possible to fly halfway across the country just to be with the one you love on a holiday that celebrates freedom and independence. Interesting turn of events indeed.

I had planned to be there for two weeks anyway, but we were under the impression that I wouldn't be able to leave until the 8th. I guess I'm just impatient. :)

I do believe I will be down there as well! Have lots of fun, you crazy kids (and I think the best advice is to get there early, though you can see them from most anywhere in the city).

My flight lands at 6:40pm, so we may not get there until around 7:30 at the earliest. We may end up just watching from around the Pentagon or GW Parkway instead. It depends on how Jeremy and meet up, whether it's at the airport or me taking the metro up to Shady Grove or Jeremy driving down. Traffic will be hell, though, so I don't think he'll do the third option.

*Jeremy and I meet up.

I definitely filled that in myself, and when I read the reply I was like, "Did she say 'Jeremy and me'? Is she that much of a grammar nazi?"

It'll work out -- I've never gone, actually. I was talking to another intern earlier this week who came out from St. Louis, and he was kind of disappointed that the interns who actually live in the area don't go. (The other girl last went down there when she was 5.)

I really want a good spot though -- I love fireworks!
