My life is pretty mundane at the moment. I have no classes, so I just go to work like it's a regular job, work all day, come home, make food, watch tv, surf the web, and go to bed. It's especially boring right now while Jeremy sleeps all day and works all night. The only major shift in our lives is that we dropped our Directv and signed up for Netflix. The streaming thing on the PS3 is pretty much AMAZING. It has most of the shows we watch on demand with no commercials. The only things I'll miss are Monday Night Football and Grey's Anatomy (we don't get ABC at all where we are, which really sucks). Grey's is at least available online though.

I'll be spending my spring break up in Ames doing wedding planning type stuff. This is kind of an important step because I'll be choosing the venues for the ceremony and reception and booking the date we want. That means I put down money on deposits and make it official that yes, we really are getting married. Aside from the actual proposal this is the first thing I'm doing. It only took me eight months.

Things that won't help me lose weight:

1. Little smokies
2. Potstickers
3. Chocolate cake with chocolate icing
4. Brownies with mint icing
5. Blueberry Raspberry Cheesecake
6. Peppermint bark
7. Pumpkin bread
8. Tortilla chips and cheesy salsa sauce
9. Pepperjack cheese
10. Deviled Eggs

And I just had all of them for lunch. Yay for holiday parties. There's another one on Monday.

The DEATH PANEL ZOMG section of the health care bill:

(5)(A) For purposes of this section, the term ‘order
regarding life sustaining treatment’ means, with respect
to an individual, an actionable medical order relating to
the treatment of that individual that—

(i) is signed and dated by a physician (as defined in subsection (r)(1)) or another health care
professional (as specified by the Secretary and who
is acting within the scope of the professional’s authority under State law in signing such an order, in-
cluding a nurse practitioner or physician assistant)
and is in a form that permits it to stay with the individual and be followed by health care professionals
and providers across the continuum of care;

(ii) effectively communicates the individual’s
preferences regarding life sustaining treatment, including an indication of the treatment and care desired by the individual;

(iii) is uniquely identifiable and standardized
within a given locality, region, or State (as identified
by the Secretary); and

(iv) may incorporate any advance directive (as
defined in section 1866(f)(3)) if executed by the individual.

(B) The level of treatment indicated under subparagraph (A)(ii) may range from an indication for full treatment to an indication to limit some or all or specified
interventions. Such indicated levels of treatment may include indications respecting, among other items—

(i) the intensity of medical intervention if the
patient is pulse less, apneic, or has serious cardiac
or pulmonary problems;
(ii) the individual’s desire regarding transfer
to a hospital or remaining at the current care setting;
(iii) the use of antibiotics; and
(iv) the use of artificially administered nutrition and hydration.

People need to learn how to fucking read, seriously. I was using this as a guide for where all the scary legislation supposedly is (although I think I'm missing half the list). The freakin' bill DEFINES what ‘order regarding life sustaining treatment’ is and people still see the word "order" and think it means the government is going to execute people.

I'm still sifting through the bill, so I haven't gotten to some of the other controversial parts yet. So far I have to disagree with several of the items on that FreeRepublic list. I read through the technical jargon on the pages listed, and it doesn't seem to say what they think it says.

Just the thing to cheer me up

I just hope our roof's okay. Jeremy's probably going to have our insurance guys come out and look at it. :/

I just took that online SkinID evaluation to see what kind of products they recommend for me. I have no intention whatsoever of buying them. The website's dumb enough to tell you what the active ingredients are so all you have to do is go and buy cheaper, generic versions of the same stuff. Plus, they recommended almost the exact same regimen that I already use. They just charge twice as much for it.

Is anyone else getting something strange on the LJ homepage?

EDIT: I guess it's fixed now, but damn that was weird. The only thing on the homepage was a 100x100 PNG image of a tower-looking thing.

I was watching the temperature climb to our northwest yesterday. Some mesonet sites near Alva hit 114 F. Granted, the heat index was like 108 because of the low humidity, but still. I fucking hate this place. Jeremy and his coworkers have been saying stuff like "If you had to choose between living in a place that is -40 F or 115 F, where would you live?" I picked the cold one without a moment's hesitation.

By the way, we are only 3 degrees cooler than Phoenix right now, but with higher humidity.

Writer's Block: Places to Lay Your Head

[Error: unknown template qotd]

OMG, do you really want to go there?

1. Garden City, KS
2. Ingalls, KS
3. Syracuse, KS (two different places)
4. Swink, CO
5. Pueblo, CO
6. Colorado City, CO
7. Dalhart, TX
8. Brewster, KS
9. Winona, KS
10. Deerfield, KS (two different places)
11. Holcomb, KS
12. Glencoe, OK
13. Greensburg, KS (two different places)
14. Haviland, KS
15. Pratt, KS (two different places)
16. Ames, IA (three different places)
17. Blanchard, OK

I know I'm missing some. I only know about those early moves from memory snippets and what my parents have told me. This also doesn't count all the places my mom lived after the divorce.

My favorite? Probably Ames. Although I love love love our house here in Oklahoma, I liked Ames as a place to live much more than I do here. Least favorite? Probably Dalhart, TX, although I don't remember much about it. All I know is that the four of us were crammed into a tiny apartment and I pretty much had the sense that none of us were happy there.

Yes, I did indeed visit Mexico recently. Yes, I am indeed sick at the moment with similar symptoms. However, by recently I mean almost two months ago, and I just caught the bug I have now about a week ago. I'm pretty sure I have nothing to worry about.

It was a pretty close call, though. I was reading the news story about those kids in New York, and apparently they visited Cancun in late March, which was where/when they were infected. Jeremy and I visited Cozumel in early March. Cozumel's only about 20 miles from Cancun. Eek.

Today is Jeremy and I's 5th anniversary of being together. It would be nice to celebrate it somehow, but Jeremy and I are both working from 8am to 8pm today. Ugh. I think the cruise was our celebration, but I'd still like to commemorate the day somehow. Maybe I'll make a cake tonight.

The trees are starting to green up here. Something about that makes me very happy. I think our crabapple tree in the backyard might actually have flowers on it for the first time since we planted it two years ago.

The only two Super Bowl commercials I liked:

CareerBuilder.com and Cash4Gold. The rest were underwhelming.

Also, fuck the Steelers.

I just watched Van Helsing for the first time. It was a pretty awful movie aside from Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale being hot. I don't remember Frankenstein taking place in Dracula's castle in Transylvania, or werewolves being part of either story. :/

Oh, and this...

It was 80 degrees here two days ago. :(

I'm back in Oklahoma. A little over 24 hours ago I was sunbathing by the pool on a gorgeous 75 degree day. It was 40 degrees in OKC when I stepped off the plane. Sigh...yes, I know it's not that cold here compared to a lot of places.

I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight. I missed my cats and boyfriend, too. :)
